Betty Friedan referred to lesbians in the feminist movement as the "lavender menace," calling us a threat to feminism. A group of lesbians claimed that phrase as a badge of honor. As the idea that queerness is an inherent negative returns to mainstream politics with a vengeance, we have to learn not to back down. The original Lavender Menace were lesbian feminists who worked across community divides rather than splitting us up for easy consumption, an idea that's far overdue for return.

This "lavender menace" pin is 1.25" in its longest dimension, black metal with soft enamel color fill and a single pin post with a black rubber clasp.
